Ellinwood Community Historical Society & Advisory Commission

What We Are
The Ellinwood Community Historical Society & Advisory Board (ECHS&AB) is a volunteer-led organization dedicated to preserving, protecting, and promoting the history of Ellinwood and the surrounding community.
We serve as both:
-
A historical society focused on collecting, preserving, and sharing local history
-
An advisory board that supports the stewardship and interpretation of community historical assets, including the Museum of Ellinwood
Our goal is simple: to make sure Ellinwood’s story is not only preserved—but actively shared, understood, and valued by current and future generations.
What We Do
The ECHS&AB supports local history through a mix of preservation, education, and community engagement:
Preservation & Archiving
-
Collect and preserve historical documents, photographs, and artifacts
-
Support the care and development of museum collections
-
Assist with identifying historically significant materials in the community
Education & Outreach
-
Share Ellinwood history through exhibits, displays, and programming
-
Support museum events and educational opportunities
-
Help connect residents and visitors with local heritage
Advisory Support
-
Provide guidance for museum operations and historical interpretation
-
Help shape long-term vision for historical preservation in Ellinwood
-
Act as a resource for historically significant community projects
Why It Matters Today
History isn’t just about the past—it’s about identity.
In a small community like Ellinwood, preserving our story helps:
-
Strengthen community pride
-
Support local tourism and economic vitality
-
Protect irreplaceable artifacts and knowledge
-
Ensure future generations understand where they came from
-
We believe Ellinwood’s history deserves an active voice—not a forgotten shelf.

Updates on museum projects and collections

Planning for exhibits and events

Discussion of preservation needs in the community

Open input from members and attendees
